Wine with a Latin Flair

monita

Welcome to the world of Bodega del Sur. We are a small, family-owned winery located in one of California’s prime wine regions. The climate is similar to the best growing areas of Spain and South America. The crisp mornings and evenings, combined with the warm midday sun, allow our grapes to achieve the most nuance vintage flavors, matching those of the Old and New Worlds. Our dream is to produce unique and incomparable wines. We put this dream in each bottle.

White Wine

VERDELHO 2019

$28

A herbaceous white wine that grows almost exclusively in the Rueda region of Spain. Not to be confused with Verdelho, a Portuguese grape used in primarily in Madeira. A great food wine due to its higher acidity and subtle bitterness acting as a palate cleanser. Pair with fish tacos, lime chicken, carnitas, and steaks -dry, light body, with notes of lime, honeydew, and grapefruit.

ALBARIÑO 2021

$28

It is a delightfully refreshing white that grows on the Beautiful Sierra Foothills in California. It’s loved for its abundant stone fruit flavors, a hint of salinity, and zippy acidity. A friend to all things from the sea, Albariño pairs exceptionally well with white fish and meats as well as leafy green herbs. Try it with fish tacos. Meat Pairing: Lighter meats, fish, and seafood sing with Albariño. Try it with ceviche, seafood fish tacos, oysters, mussels, and clams. Cheese Pairing: Soft cheeses or semi-hard cheeses such as manchego, gouda, and salty feta will be killer alongside these fresh and bright wines. Red Wine

TANNAT 2018

$50

Tannat is a red-wine grape whose origins lie in the Basque country, on the border between France and Spain. Here, in the shadow of the Pyrenees Mountains, the terrain is rough and rugged, so it is only fitting that Tannat should create wines that are equally deep, dark, dry, and rustic.

MALBEC 2018

$40

It’s easy to forget that Malbec originated in France because more than 75% of the world’s Malbec vines are located in South America. Mendoza, Argentina, is the Malbec capital of the world.
Malbec smells like dried leaves, candied cherries, hibiscus, fresh raspberries, and old leather. Primary flavors include red plum, blackberry, vanilla, sweet tobacco and cocoa.
Food Pairings: Unlike Cabernet, Malbec doesn’t have a long finish,  so pair it with leaner red meats (ostrich anyone?) and does wonders with melted blue cheese.
Dry, Full body.

$38

Mourvedre (Monastrell in its native Spain) is a black-skinned variety that has been grown in vineyards all around the western Mediterranean for many centuries. Monastrell is a meaty and full-bodied red wine. Monastrell smell is an explosion of dark fruit, flowers like violet, and herbaceous aroma of black pepper, thyme, and red meat. In regions such as Spain, Mourvedre wine can have a very gamey taste of black pepper, violet, rose, and smoke.
